Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for questions to be asked about his position following a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the club's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.

“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from above,” the coach stated.

“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”

He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with Club Management

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”

Familiar Failings and Player Response

The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.

“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a period like this with results like these.”

Jones concluded, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to battle.”

“We’re going to try to get this team return to the top, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the world.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
